Advancing the Cybersecurity Workforce

The National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework is what DHS and DOD call the “foundation for increasing the size and capability of the U.S. cybersecurity workforce.” The building blocks for the framework are Protect and Defend, Investigate, Analyze, Collect and Operate, Securely Provision, and Operate and Maintain.

The framework categorizes, organizes, and unites the DHS/NSA/DOD effort to expand this precious profession. The framework is for everyone: educators, students, employers, employees, training providers and policy makers, according to DHS.  

Another, similar resource  is the agency’s joint National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies (NICCS), which makes cybersecurity research and training findable via a searchable catalog online. Users can find cyber training programs based on their location, delivery method, specialty area, or proficiency level. The Federal agencies and military want to grow the cyber workforce quickly. This joint effort includes distributing the scientific, technological, and engineering aspects of cybersecurity, as well.
